English Language Program
The Department of English and Global Communication has been created to become an educational experience that is the first of its kind in the region. The program offers courses that are not available in the Arab world and it focuses on pedagogies that are not utilized to teach these innovative courses
The Department of English and Global Communication is the first to attempt to tailor a university course that fits the career aspirations of its students with the latest in educational technology that promotes learner autonomy and lifelong learning.
The program will foster the development of students’ skills necessary for their employment in the global marketplace by enabling them to become culturally sensitive with communicative abilities that will enable them to pursue careers fields of their choosing, particularly the business, diplomacy, journalism and translation fields, as well as to carry on with further studies here or abroad.

We seek to become a pioneering program in the leading educational institution in the region whose teaching is underpinned by groundbreaking research agendas that serve to inform policymakers and the business community in our area.
The department utilizes innovative and technology-enhanced pedagogies, interdisciplinary approaches, fieldwork, and a variety of project-based as well as case based learning with the aim of building a strong foundation of language competence and career skills among our students.

Our department is a student-centered, multidisciplinary program that endeavors to prepare students to participate in the modern global economy. It promotes the development of language skills within an intercultural framework that is individually tailored to suit the career aspirations of our students. In addition to the core English language subjects, the Department of E&GC permits a variety of pathways for students to pursue: language and communication, translation and intercultural communication, and multilingualism (English/Italian). Multidisciplinary courses in law, business administration, marketing and others are provided in addition to the primary subjects of communication, translation, and global and cultural studies to further personalize our students’ learning experience in order that they will broaden their career opportunities and become capable and engaged global citizens.
Our Objectives
By functioning as a pioneer in the field of global communication through innovative courses first offered in this region, and by utilizing the latest teaching methodologies and technologies with a student-centered approach, we equip our students with the skills required for effective participation in the global job market. The objectives of the English and Global Communication department are stated as follows:
- To develop advanced language proficiency in the four skills of English, and to enhance grammatical accuracy and vocabulary range in order to enhance effective communication in diverse contexts.
- To empower students to become skilled communicators who can contribute to our interconnected world with cultural sensitivity, critical and creative thinking, intellectual curiosity, ethical awareness and a commitment to life-long learning.
- To develop critical thinking and research skills, including information collection, critical evaluation and synthesis of sources, and to generate state-of-the-art knowledge through original innovative research.
- To achieve a global perspective on communication and cultural practices by exploring the effect of globalization on language, culture and communication as well as to acquire cross-cultural competence with an understanding of global opportunities and challenges.
- To instill in knowledgeable, technologically-literate, lifelong learners the skills necessary for careers and/or advanced study such as collaboration and teamwork skills, as well as to prepare them to be concerned citizens and leaders in our diverse global society.
