The Law Program celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today. It is a wonderful scene where male and female students share a common conviction and strive to establish a unified culture that condemns violence and contributes to an awareness campaign to mitigate its impact, paving the way for its eradication. Through continuous campaigns and the consolidation of this awareness, the Law Program at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences organized, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, an event attended by its students, faculty, and administrative staff, as well as the program’s coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Salim. The event commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, marking the beginning of a 16-day activity campaign to combat violence, raise awareness about women’s rights guaranteed in Islamic law, constitutions, international conventions, the Libyan constitution, define violence and its forms, the environment in which it thrives, and how Libyan law addresses it, as well as legislative shortcomings. The activities included the distribution of educational brochures on violence, as well as distributing roses to women on campus. The program also encouraged visitors to leave an orange handprint, which is the designated color for this day, to demonstrate their solidarity with the cause. The Law Program believes in the humanity of the issue and the importance of women’s status in society, emphasizing the need not to normalize these barbaric actions and to treat women with dignity, respecting their role in achieving the desired social progress.
